The Medibank International Sydney is an annual hard-court tennis tournament which is held in Sydney, Australia. The event is held at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre and dating to 1885, it is one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world. The tournament is a Premier event on the WTA circuit.
The tournament was formed in 1885 by the colonial officials. The tournament was held to discover the best tennis players from each colonies and hence, to assist in the selection of Australasia Davis Cup team. The tournament is a Premier event on the WTA calendar and in case of men it is ATP World Tour 250 event. Still many top ranked men’s players participate in the event as a preparation for Australian Open.
The event not only offers display of world class tennis, but there is plenty of action off-court as well. There is a Medibank Interactive Zone which includes giveaways, exciting games like ‘Double Trouble’, ‘Face the Ace’, tennis hot shots and many more.
