Kremlin Cup

Kremlin-CupThe Kremlin Cup is an annual hardcourt tennis tournament which is held in Moscow, Russia. The tournament is a Premier event on the WTA Tour whereas on the ATP Tour it is ATP World Tour 250 series. Kremlin Cup is the first International Tennis Tournament held in Russia, which was founded by a Swiss businessman Sasson Kakshouri in 1990.

Since then the tournament has grown in terms of money as well as prestige and the Kremlin Cup is now considered as the best in organization among the ATP Tour Tournaments.

In its early years, the event started as a men’s only event, but in 1996 it became a joint event. In 2004, for the first time in the history of Kremlin Cup, all the titles in singles as well as in doubles were won by the Russian players. The tournament was held on carpet surface until 2007, and presently it is held on a hard surface. The venue of the tournament- Olympic stadium is a large indoor arena which was built for 1980 Summer Olympics.
