It is said that Mistakes are a part of the learning curve. Most beginners are besieged with the number of tips about techniques and strategies. A tennis beginner is actually unaware of the mistakes that he makes. So following are a few mistakes that a beginner makes while playing tennis –
- Beginners often misjudge the ball. They lack the judgment as where the ball is going and its pace. A beginner often thinks that the ball is going to fall short than it actually is; hence they run towards it and hit the ball too hard and are off balance.
- Many beginners make the mistake of gripping the racquet incorrectly. This heavily affects the range of strokes as well as the overall ability. Thus the grip on the racquet should not be too tight.
- Beginners usually see the ball and swing at it. They hit the ball too hard as they don’t have any target. Hence, one should know the distance as to how far the ball should be hit and get a feel of the required force.
- Once the beginners have mastered some strokes and have begun to feel the game, they are tempted towards changing the equipment (Racquet). It is always advisable to stick with the racquet that one began practicing with and then one can shift to other equipments. This will enhance your skills with ease and comfort.
- Beginners must learn to complete the follow through of their strokes. Many beginners hit the ball hard and stop the racquet at the contact point, which leads to ineffective stroke as the control on the ball is lost.
- Beginners usually avoid the two P’s which form a big part in tennis. These are Practice and Patience. Practice brings better stroke making abilities, confidence and high level of performance whereas patience gives a chance to learn strokes and rules.
- Beginners usually focus more on groundstrokes and fail to master their serve. Serving is very challenging to learn and tossing the ball in the right place is a challenging task for beginners. Sometimes the ball may fall behind, sometimes in front, too forward, too high or low. This causes imbalance, so one has to follow correct technique.
