The Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters is an annual clay-court tennis tournament which is held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, a commune bordering Monaco, of which Monte Carlo is the most famous ward. The event is a part of the ATP tour and is a Masters 1000 event held annually in April-May period.
The event completed its 100th anniversary in 2006 and is the first tournament out of the three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments played on clay.
The tournament began in 1897 and it became an ‘Open’ event in 1969. The venue has a fantastic location and a long tradition of champions like Rafael Nadal, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Gustavo Kuerten, Bjorn Borg and many more. Due to this, the tournament has gained much popularity among the players as well as among fans. This tournament does not have a mandatory player commitment as other ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments.
