Achievements –
Tsonga had a successful junior career, and won the US Open juniors title in 2003. He also reached the finals of other 3 Grand Slam events. He finished 2003, ranked No.2 in the juniors rankings. Tsonga reached the BNP Paribas Masters final in 2008 and won that tournament. At match point, 1.3 million viewers were recorded. Tsonga’s other awards include –

    • ATP Most Improved Player of Year in 2008.

Rogers Cup

rogers-cupThe Rogers Cup is an annual hard-court tennis tournament, which rotates between two major Canadian cities, Montreal and Toronto. In odd-numbered years the event is held in Montreal for men, while the women’s tournament is held in Toronto and in case of even-numbered years it is vice-versa. The men’s competition is Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour and the women’s competition is Premier 5 event and is held in July-August period.

The event has a long and illustrious history with the men’s tournament dating back to 1881, when it was held at Toronto Lawn Tennis Club. This is the oldest ongoing tennis tournament after Wimbledon and US Open, which is acknowledged by the tennis world to be one of the best-run tennis tournaments of the Tour. The event is a mandatory one on the ATP Tour, which will take place at the Rexall Centre, York University. At present, the tournament is held in different weeks for men and women, but from 2011 the Rogers Cup will be held in the same week for both men as well as women.

Barclays ATP World Tour Finals

barclay-atp-world-tourThe Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is a tennis event which takes place at the end of each year involving the top eight ranked tennis players in men’s tennis.

The tournament is not similar to other tournaments which feature straightforward knockout ties. Instead, the ATP World Tour Finals feature 8 players which are divided into two groups consisting of four players each. Each player then plays three round-robin matches against three other players in their respective groups. After this, the top 2 players in each group advances to semi-finals, with the winners meeting in the final to determine the champion.

The tournament will be played for the second time in 2010 at The O2 Arena in London. After the champion is determined, the points are added to each player and the ATP World Tour Champion is crowned. The tournament first took place in Tokyo in 1970 and was known as The Masters Grand Prix. In 2009, the tournament was renamed as The World Tour Finals and is scheduled to be held at the O2 Arena till 2012.

Valencia Open 500

valencia-openThe Valencia Open 500 is an annual hard-court tennis tournament which is held in Valencia, Spain. The event is currently a part of ATP 500 event. In 2009, the Valencia Open 500 and the Madrid Masters exchanged surfaces and calendar dates, with the Valencia Open 500 becoming an indoor hardcourt event whereas the Madrid Masters becoming an outdoor clay court tournament.

As per the new schedule, the tournament is now held in early November, which serves as a battleground for the best tennis players in an attempt to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals. The venue of the tournament - Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, is a metallic construction with a pointed elliptical look which is around 88 meters long. The tournament began from Valencia in 1995 and then moved to the city of Marbella, Spain for two editions- 1996 and 1997. The tournament was then shifted to Majorca from 1998 to 2002 and finally, in 2003 the tournament shifted back to its current site.
